Phil Dutra performing live in Los Angeles, CA
thought I’d share a little more of my story—the real stuff that lives behind the songs.
I grew up in New York, where the noise of the city was constant—sirens, street chatter, music blasting from car radios. Somewhere in all that, I discovered The Beatles. Their songs felt like an anchor, giving me something steady when the world felt overwhelming.
Over time, bands like Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Billy Joel, and Fountains Of Wayne left their mark on me too. Their stories and melodies shaped how I wanted to write my own.
But along with the music came a shadow—anxiety. For years it felt like a fog I couldn’t escape. Eventually, with therapy, meditation, and some support, I started to find calm again. And through it all, songwriting became my best outlet. Every fear, every late-night worry, every ounce of doubt—I could pour it into the chords and lyrics.
That’s how Right Behind The Rain came to life. It’s more than just an album to me—it’s proof that storms don’t last forever. The title track is about resilience, about finding yourself on the other side of struggle. The other songs each carry their own piece of that journey: heartbreak, hope, vulnerability, and even a little humor.
When I play these songs live, I see how music connects us. People nod along, some close their eyes, others sing every word. It reminds me why I started in the first place—because music has this crazy way of making us feel less alone.
So if you’ve ever leaned on music to get through tough times, or just wanted a reminder that brighter days follow the storm, this album is for you.
Thanks for letting me share a little bit of the “why” behind what I do. If any of it hits home, I’d love to hear from you—just drop me a reply after reading.
You can hear the emotion and the melody on my CD "Right Behind The Rain."
I hope you find comfort in them as well!!
